Picked this up at TJ Maxx. Didn't know I wanted a salt pig until I had this. While it has a knob on the top to pick it up, it is heavy enough with the salt in it that I need to pick it up by the body and can not use the knob. The knob seems almost decorative. But the pig fits nicely in the palm of my hand to move it away from the stove when I am working at my island. I love the tiny spoon for dispensing salt as I am cooking. And obviously using measuring spoons is very easy. Someone wrote in another review that they could not put their fist through the mouth. Why would you need to be able to put your fist through? You only need to be able to get a pinch with your fingers. This salt pig allows you to do so. If you can not get a pinch easily with your fingers, pick the pig up and tilt it until it is almost upside down, so the salt is at the mouth. Take a pinch.
One thing to know about this particular salt pig is that it is glazed inside and out. Some salt pig reviews say that unglazed interior is superior for keeping the salt from clumping due to humidity. I live in a very humid climate and will be interested to see what happens to the salt once summer rolls around.

We use nothing but kosher salt in our kitchen, and it is impossible to get kosher salt out of a salt shaker because the holes in the shaker are not large enough. Instead, I open the salt shaker, pour some salt into my hand, and promptly drop a blob of salt into the food. This is highly unsanitary, and it is embarrassing to see dinner guests beat the living daylights out of the salt shaker in order to season their food. I purchased this product - and I still don't know WHY it works; I just know that it is the answer that I have been looking for! It is really a cute little item (it even has a cute little piggy tail on the back), and the salt spoon is just the perfect size for just about everything. It is an inexpensive and attractive fix for people who love kosher salt. You will not be disappointed.

This is the fourth salt pig I have purchased. The reason is... that everyone who sees my salt pig wants it. So I keep purchasing them as gifts. I've seen other salt pigs, but this one is the cutest.

The design is cute without being cutesy, and extremely useful for quickly throwing in a dash or pinch of salt while cooking.

I received this item quickly and the pig was in great condition but the spoon was chipped. I returned it and purchased another one. Again, the spoon was chipped. The spoon comes packed in Styrofoam, so the problem must be that the spoons are already chipped before being packed and that the seller is not checking for quality control.
Update to Review: Contacted the seller who told me that they never even touch the products which Amazon fulfills. I find it hard to believe that a seller would never see her own product. Poor quality control and a lame response to a valid customer complaint.
